You're probably here because you tried to delete your Instacart account and found, much to your surprise, that there is no option to do so. At least, no option that's clear to you!

How to delete your Instacart account (desktop/app)

Open your preferred web browser and navigate to the Instacart website. Alternatively, open the Instacart app on your mobile/tablet.
Sign into your Instacart account via the Account button in the top-right of the website's homepage, or when prompted upon entering the app.
Next, click/tap on your account name in the top-right of the screen, and from the drop-down menu, select 'Account settings'
1. If you have an Instacart Express subscription, then it's now time to cancel this. Click 'Instacart Express' from the menu options on the left. Then, on the next page, click the 'End Membership' button, located next to 'Membership Plan'. Finally, click 'Continue' to confirm the deactivation
From the 'Your Account' page, click on the 'Help' option from the menu bar on the left-hand side of the page
Scroll down to, and click on 'Profile & Account Settings'
Next, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the green button labelled 'Get help'
1. Note: If using the Instacart app, you can locate the Contact Us section by finding the link at the bottom of any article in the Help section of the app.
You'll be redirected to a 'Contact Us' section. You can choose 'Chat with us', 'Call us', or 'Email us'. Choose whichever option you prefer to be connected to an Instacart customer service agent
Instruct the agent that you wish to permanently delete your Instacart account, and follow the instructions they give you to do so.

And there you have it. Whether you're deleting a regular customer account, or a 'Shopper' account (because you no longer wish to work for Instacart), you can do so fairly easily by following our instructions above.

What is Instacart?

Instacart is an American company that offers users a 'personal shopper'-type service, whereby they can order groceries for pick-up and/or home delivery. Like Just Eat, Uber Eats, and a thousand other such apps, Instacart has provided home shopping services for items (groceries) which either were not previously deliverable or in a manner that allows customers to order for delivery across a range of stores.

Instacart is available as a mobile app, or through a desktop browser. Instacart users need to create an account in order to use the service, and typically they pay per order, using payment details stored on their account. However, it is also possible to sign up for an Instacart Express premium membership.

Instacart Express is a paid subscription service that affords users the option to subscribe on a monthly basis to the service, and thus order groceries through it whenever they like.

Why would I want to delete my Instacart account?

There is any number of reasons why you might consider deleting your Instacart account, but the most likely is simply that you've stopped using it, or have moved outside the USA or Canada (the two regions where the service operates).

Alternatively, of course, it may be that you have an Express premium Instacart service that you no longer wish to pay for, on top of no longer wishing to use the app. Moreover, you may be an 'Instacart Shopper' working for the company. You can delete your Shopper account using the same method you use to delete a normal account.

Why can I not delete my Instacart account myself?

Instacart, as you'll probably have already figured out, does not actually allow you to delete your account yourself. In other words, whilst there is a convenient app and online version of the service, there is no 'delete account' button to speak of.

Instead, the process is deliberately lengthy, presumably to discourage users from leaving the app. This is a standard tactic of startups who would prefer to have high user numbers than high usage, so as to market themselves as a bigger company than they actually are.

Nevertheless, it is far from impossible to delete your Instacart account, and by following the steps we outline in our tutorial above, you can do so in the next to no time.

Can I recover an accidentally deleted Instacart account?

This is difficult to say, but the likelihood is that no, you cannot recover an Instacart account once you have officially and permanently deleted it. Whilst this may seem like an inconvenience, remember that the deletion process is not straightforward, and so you should have plenty of time to reconsider your decision before pulling the plug on your account.

Moreover, you can always sign up for a new account for free, and be back up and running in no time. However, if you really want that old Instacart account of yours back, then we suggest contacting the Instacart service team (just like you did to delete the account), and asking them if you can get it back.
